Jack Campbell Announces Retirement and Shifts to Coaching with Novus Global

The former NHL goaltender reflects on a 14‑year career and looks ahead to a new role in athlete development

Jack Campbell, the 34‑year‑old goaltender who spent more than a decade in the National Hockey League, surprised fans last week by announcing his retirement on Instagram.

The announcement came as Campbell prepares to embark on a new chapter as a coach with Novus Global, a firm that provides executive and athlete training services.

A journey through NHL cities

Selected 11th overall by the Dallas Stars in the 2010 draft, Campbell began his professional career in the AHL before earning a single NHL appearance during the 2013‑14 season. He later signed with the Los Angeles Kings, where he posted a 20‑24‑5 record with a .918 save percentage over three seasons.

A mid‑season trade in February 2019 sent him to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for forward Trevor Moore and two draft picks. In the 2021‑22 campaign Campbell enjoyed his most successful stretch, finishing 31‑9‑6 and earning an All‑Star Game selection.

The following summer he inked a five‑year, $25 million contract with the Edmonton Oilers. Despite the sizable deal, the Oilers’ depth chart shifted, and Campbell lost his starting role to Stuart Skinner, leading to a buyout in June 2024.

Campbell’s final professional appearance came in the 2024‑25 season with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, marking the end of his playing days.

Looking ahead

While stepping away from the ice, Campbell will channel his experience into coaching, joining Novus Global’s roster of professionals dedicated to developing executives and athletes alike. The move reflects a growing trend of former players transitioning into mentorship and performance‑enhancement roles.

Fans and colleagues alike wish him success in this next phase, confident that his on‑ice insights will translate well to the training rooms of tomorrow.
