A Strategic Commitment
On May 18, Brandon Leavell, a three‑star prospect from Goodpasture High School in Tennessee, announced his commitment to the University of Tennessee’s football program.
Standing at 6‑foot‑2 and 170 pounds, Leavell brings a blend of size and speed that caught the eye of recruiters across the Southeast.
During his junior season he posted 35 receptions for 735 yards and 12 touchdowns, while also contributing four interceptions and earning Division II‑AA Middle All‑Region honors.
The recruitment saga was marked by a crowded field of suitors, including Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, Clemson, and North Carolina State, and it began to take shape after he received his first Division I offer from UConn and Arkansas State in February.
Tennessee’s offer became his first Power Four scholarship, and the list of 24 potential destinations eventually expanded to include Indiana, Ole Miss, Auburn and others.
His pledge arrives just days before he is scheduled to tour the campuses of Tennessee, Clemson, North Carolina State and Florida State, a timing that underscores the strategic nature of his decision.
Head coach Josh Heupel highlighted the player’s potential to stretch the field and noted that the addition strengthens the Volunteers’ offensive versatility.
The commitment also reflects the growing appeal of the Volunteers’ program, which has leveraged its affiliation with the Tennessee Volunteers Football brand and its partnership with the Tennessee High School Athletic Association to attract top talent.
