Police in Meriden responded to a domestic disturbance early Tuesday morning, where they found a man violently striking another individual with a baseball bat.
The victim suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the suspect was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for treatment.
Investigation Underway
During the confrontation, an officer discharged their weapon, striking the suspect, who remained hospitalized under police guard. The officer involved was also injured and required medical attention, but was later released after treatment.
State officials have placed the incident under the scrutiny of the Inspector General’s office and the Connecticut State Police, who will examine the circumstances surrounding the use of force and the ensuing investigation.
The Meriden Police Department issued a statement expressing condolences to the victim’s family and reassuring the public that the department is cooperating fully with investigators, emphasizing that there is no ongoing threat to community safety.
