A New Era for Vanderbilt Basketball
Gabe Nesmith, a five-star wing from Atlanta, has announced that he will reclassify to join Vanderbilt’s 2026 recruiting class, meaning he will be on campus and eligible to play this coming season. The move comes after the Commodores secured his commitment on June 30, a date that marks a significant addition to their roster.
Ranked No. 21 overall in the 2027 national composite and listed as the third-highest rated recruit in Vanderbilt history, Nesmith brings a blend of size and explosiveness: he stands 6‑5 with a 6‑9 wingspan and is celebrated for his acrobatic dunks and a versatile offensive repertoire. Analysts describe his game as a deep bag of individual offense, giving the Commodores another dynamic scoring option.
Coach Mark Byington, known for his willingness to trust the bench and rotate players based on matchup demands, will have a crowded mix of talent to manage. In addition to Nesmith, Vanderbilt has added a suite of top prospects and transfers — including Ethan Mgbako, Anthony Brown, Jackson Sheffield, Sebastian Williams-Adams, T.O. Barrett, Ace Glass, Bangot Dak and Berke Buyuktuncel — creating a deep pool of athleticism and scoring.
The Commodores also return guard Tyler Tanner, a star playmaker whose presence will test how Nesmith integrates into a backcourt that already boasts multiple scoring threats.
