A winning start
The United States continued its unbeaten run in the 2026 WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup, downing Australia 10-5 in a Group Stage showdown that left the American crowd roaring and improved the team’s record to 3-0.
At the heart of the offense, Denae Benites launched a go-ahead three-run homer in the third inning, a swing that shifted momentum and propelled the U.S. to a comfortable lead. Benites is now slashing .714/.818/1.714 through three games and tops the tournament with 11 RBIs.
The pitching staff proved equally formidable, surrendering just five runs while striking out only three times in 80 at-bats. Reliever Meggie Meidlinger needed just 15 pitches to retire eight of nine batters, throwing 80% strikes in 1.1 innings of work.
Next challenge: Canada
Looking ahead, the Americans will test their mettle against Canada on July 25 at Rivets Stadium in Rockford, Illinois, a venue that will host the 7:00 p.m. local/8:00 p.m. ET clash.
Beyond the single game, Team USA is averaging more than 18 runs per contest and batting .438 as a squad, a combination that has opponents scrambling to keep pace.
