A Season of Recognition

The University of Miami’s baseball program capped a compelling season with a sweep of conference honors, as five of its standout athletes were selected to the All-ACC teams announced this week.

Rob Evans, a senior right-hander, earned a second-team nod after posting a 9-3 record and striking out 88 batters, underscoring his reliability in the rotation.

Derek Williams, the team’s offensive catalyst, batted .389 and launched 15 home runs, positioning him as a leading candidate for ACC Player of the Year.

Alex Sosa complemented the power surge with a .335 average and 16 homers, his on-base plus slugging (OPS) of 1.118 reflecting a potent combination of contact and power.

Daniel Cuvet, despite missing 21 games due to injury, still managed a .305 average and 12 home runs, illustrating his resilience and depth.

Freshman Alonzo Alvarez broke out with a .301 average and four home runs, earning a spot on the All-Freshman Team and hinting at a bright future.

Conference Honors Across the Board

The broader ACC recognition extended to the first, second and third teams, which featured players from traditional powerhouses such as Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Pitt and Wake Forest, while the all-freshman squad drew talent from schools including Boston College, California and Stanford.

Coach Jim McGuire praised the collective effort, noting that the accolades reflect not only individual excellence but also the program’s growing depth and competitiveness on the national stage.
