A veteran’s return to the rink
Scott Ford, a 46‑year‑old former professional hockey player, has been hired as an assistant coach for the AHL Coachella Valley Firebirds, the farm team of the Seattle Kraken. His 12‑year journey through North American pro hockey — spanning five AHL and five ECHL clubs — brings a depth of experience that the Firebirds hope will translate into on‑ice growth for a roster that will be among the youngest in the league this season.
From captaincy to conference finals
Ford spent eight seasons as an assistant with the Milwaukee Admirals, a period that included two trips to the Western Conference Finals. As a defenseman, he logged 522 AHL games, most of them with the Admirals, and served as team captain for two seasons, experiences that have shaped his leadership style.

According to Ford, the cornerstone of player development is open communication, mutual trust, and a commitment to individualized attention. He believes that each prospect benefits from a tailored development plan that respects personal strengths and addresses specific growth areas.

The Firebirds, who defeated the Admirals in both 2023 and 2024, are poised to leverage Ford’s insights as they build a competitive, youthful squad for the 2026‑27 season.
