A New Era of Collaboration
USA Basketball has announced that Mark Daigneault, J.B. Bickerstaff, and Mark Few will serve as assistant coaches for the national team at the 2027 Basketball World Cup and the 2028 Olympic Games, working under head coach Erik Spoelstra.
Daigneault, who previously served as a video coordinator for USA Basketball over a decade ago, brings experience from two junior world championships, having contributed to the U19 World Cup title in 2013 and the U18 FIBA Americas crown in 2014.
Bickerstaff, making his debut with the national program, highlighted the strong support the United States receives during the World Cup and noted the fresh perspective he will add to the staff.
Few, a Hall of Fame inductee who will be enshrined next month, returns to the role he held during the last Olympic cycle under Steve Kerr, expressing honor at the opportunity to work once again with USA Basketball.
Spoelstra said the early formation of the coaching staff reflects a commitment to continuity and collaboration, and he expressed excitement about the collective expertise the new assistants bring.
Grant Hill, the men’s national team managing director, emphasized that the selected coaches embody the program’s values and that their combined backgrounds will strengthen the team’s preparation for upcoming tournaments.
The appointments mark a significant step in assembling a coaching group that blends past success with fresh insight as the United States aims to defend its title on the world stage.
