The Thomas Jefferson High School football team is preparing for a historic season as it moves up to Class 5A for the first time in school history, a transition triggered by the latest district realignment that will take effect in 2026.

Coach Bill Cherpak, who has been vocal about the shift, says the move reflects the school's growing enrollment and the competitive landscape of the Allegheny Six Conference, which now includes rivals such as Peters Township and Bethel Park.
Classification Details
The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association released classification parameters for the 2026‑27 and 2027‑28 school years, determining that Jefferson, with 453 boys in grades nine through eleven, falls into the 5A bracket of schools with 413 to 578 male students.
Roster and Key Players
Returning starters give the Jaguars a solid foundation. Junior quarterback Harrison Kolling, senior wide receiver Kane Eggerton, and a host of other veterans including Deacon Kamberis, Luccas Patterson, Alejandro Aleman and a group of sophomore standouts bring experience to both sides of the ball.
Among them, Tyler Eber stands out as a senior running back/defensive back who amassed 1,885 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns last season. Eber is eager to showcase the team's ground‑and‑pound style against new opponents and to help the squad aim for a state title despite the tougher competition.
The coaching staff also benefits from the presence of Beckett Everley, Dylan Beasock, Elijah Fant, Dartanyan Craven, Kaden Fitz, Colton Barilla and other emerging players who are expected to contribute significantly.
