When the University of Southern California opens its 2026 football campaign on August 29 against San Jose State, the spotlight will briefly turn to a name that still resonates among Trojan alumni – Thomas Williams.
Williams spent four seasons in the Trojan defensive lineup from 2003 through 2007, appearing in 49 of USC’s 52 games and earning 14 starts across three positions, including a stint at fullback.
Honors and Recognition
His contributions were recognized in 2007 when he earned All‑Pac‑10 Honorable Mention honors and was selected as the co‑special teams player of the year, a testament to his impact on the unit.
The following year, the Jacksonville Jaguars drafted him in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft, setting him on a professional path that would span six franchises over five seasons.
Professional Journey
Though his NFL résumé recorded just 14 total tackles and two forced fumbles, Williams suited up for six different teams, each time carving out a role on special teams and, at times, on offense.
A neck injury forced his retirement in 2012, closing the chapter on a playing career that had begun in the heart of Los Angeles.
