Raquel Welch, a sophomore from Big Rapids, Michigan, made a splash in her first season of high school soccer while continuing to excel on the ice with the Fox Motors 16U girls hockey team.
Having logged years of soccer from third through seventh grade, she returned to the sport to complement her hockey commitments, quickly adapting to the right‑defense position where she focused on shutting down opposing forwards and limiting scoring chances.
A dual‑sport standout
On the soccer side, the Big Rapids squad captured the Central State Activities Association championship, though the team fell short of a district title; Welch’s defensive contributions were a steady presence throughout the campaign.
In hockey, Welch operates as a center for the Fox Motors 16U girls team, where she tallied 14 goals, including a hat trick in a single game, and is praised for her physicality, speed, and ability to read the flow of play on the ice.
With the hockey season now wrapped up, she plans to devote more time to the sport while also rejoining the soccer program next year, a testament to her versatility and competitive drive.
