UMD Women’s Basketball Bolsters Coaching Staff with Jensen and Olson

Veteran assistants bring playing experience and recruiting pedigree to the Bulldogs

University of Minnesota Duluth’s women’s basketball program has announced the addition of two seasoned assistants, Bonnie Jensen and Brynn Olson, ahead of the upcoming season. The moves come as the Bulldogs look to build on recent successes and deepen their recruiting pipeline.

A Homecoming for Olson

Brynn Olson returns to Duluth after a standout playing career at St. Cloud State University, where she helped the Bulldogs capture the 2023 NCAA Division II National Runner‑Up honor. Her accolades include selections to the NSIC Winter All‑Academic Team and the WBCA Academic Top‑25, underscoring a commitment to both athletics and scholarship.

Olson is now pursuing a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance at St. Cloud State, having previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing with a perfect 4.0 GPA. Her blend of on‑court experience and academic rigor positions her to contribute meaningfully to player development and strategic planning.

Bringing Fresh Coaching Energy

Bonnie Jensen joins the Bulldogs after a productive stint at the University of Dubuque, where she coached All‑Conference players and served as a head coach for the AAU program Chapman Basketball Academy. Jensen’s playing foundation was laid at Ripon College, earning multiple All‑Conference and Academic All‑Conference honors while completing a Master of Management in Sports Management.

Her background as both a competitor and a recruiter equips her to attract top talent and refine tactical concepts within the program. Together, Jensen and Olson bring a balanced mix of playing experience, coaching acumen, and local connection that the coaching staff believes will elevate the Bulldogs’ competitiveness.

Coach Brooke Olson expressed enthusiasm about the new additions, noting that their familiarity with the region and proven track records align with the program’s vision of sustained growth. The university’s athletic department, in partnership with its academic institutions, looks forward to leveraging this expertise to enhance recruitment, player development, and overall program success.
