Pleasantville’s Historic Victory
On a crisp Friday evening at Merchants Park in Carroll, the Pleasantville baseball team cemented its place in recent history by securing its second consecutive Class 2A state championship. The Trojans defeated the Durant Wildcats 8‑1 in front of a roaring crowd, capping a season that will be remembered for both its dominance and its resilience.
The game began with an early statement as Brayden Kennedy delivered a two‑RBI single that brought JJ Phillips and Easton Cox across the plate. A sacrifice fly in the third inning added another run, and a flurry of activity in the fifth inning — highlighted by a two‑RBI single from Will Mesecher and a defensive miscue — extended the lead. By the sixth inning, a timely RBI double from Braylon Bingham sealed the scoring, leaving the Wildcats with only a solitary home run to show for their efforts.
Kennedy’s performance on the mound was nothing short of masterful. Throwing 103 pitches, he completed the game, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out eight batters. His command and stamina set the tone for a team that collectively scattered 11 hits across eight different hitters.
Head Coach Luke Adreon praised the squad’s blend of talent and relentless work ethic, noting that the championship was the culmination of months of disciplined preparation. The team finished the season with a stellar 35‑1 record, a milestone that will be tempered by the graduation of eight seniors, each of whom leaves a lasting imprint on the program.
