Juneau’s Junior Baseball All-Stars Extend Series Lead
The Gastineau Channel Little League Junior Baseball All-Stars delivered a dominant 10‑0 victory over Ketchikan Little League in just six innings, moving the series to a 2‑1 advantage in the best‑of-five championship.
Manager Zach Kohan, who has been at the helm of the Juneau squad, said the team’s confidence and chemistry have been evident throughout the tournament, describing the players as “playing like a unit that trusts each other.”
Pitching dominance
Gavin Kohan took the mound and threw the entire game, striking out five batters while keeping Ketchikan’s hitters at bay.
The offense clicked early, with a flurry of walks in the second inning that set up the first runs, and the lead grew as the game progressed, featuring contributions from Eli Hayes, Colin Daniels, Wyatt Hickok, Logan Fanning, Mast Mallott, Rawley Cox and Max Hayes.
In the third inning, a single by Gavin Kohan and a two‑out hit from Daniels added another run, while a double by Max Hayes in the fourth brought home Logan Fanning and Mast Mallott, extending the margin.
The final two runs came in the sixth, when Max Hayes delivered a single and a passed ball allowed another tally, sealing the 10‑0 outcome.
The next contest is slated for Sunday at noon, with a potential fifth game if needed, and the winner will advance to the Regional Championships in Bend, Oregon, scheduled for July 22‑30.
Meanwhile, the Junior Softball team fell to Abbott‑O‑Rabbit 19‑10, but the organization will still be represented at the regional tournament in Tucson, Arizona, from July 23‑29.
