Lexington Christian Academy, the reigning Class 2A state football champions, is gearing up for another compelling season in 2026, built around a roster that boasts three senior commitments to Division I programs.
Coach Oakley Watkins, now in his third year at the helm, insists that the program’s identity rests on selflessness and character rather than trophies, shaping daily habits that aim to forge better young people.
Character as the Cornerstone
Watkins emphasizes that winning is a by‑product of a team that puts collective goals ahead of individual accolades, a philosophy that has resonated with players and parents alike.
The squad returns eight athletes who will continue their careers at the collegiate level, including tight end Conrad Hart, who has pledged to Kentucky and will enroll early, and receiver Sam Pearson, who amassed nearly 500 yards and seven touchdowns last season.
Running back Daven Hood added close to 600 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in 2025, while junior quarterback Nash Whelan threw for 2,526 yards and 28 scores while also rushing for over 1,000 yards and contributing 41 tackles on defense.
Senior linebacker Aiden Lyons paced the defense with 89 tackles, and junior Thomas Sizemore recorded 74 stops, giving the unit a solid foundation heading into the new campaign.
Defensive standouts such as all‑state lineman Bode Darling and cornerback Jeremiah Burbage, who holds an offer from Middle Tennessee State, round out a unit that expects to compete fiercely in the upcoming schedule.
Key matchups include contests against Boyle County, Christian Academy‑Louisville, Franklin County and Lexington Catholic, each promising a test of the team’s depth and resilience.
