The University of Wyoming’s football program is buzzing with activity as it welcomes nearly fifty newcomers to the roster ahead of the 2025 season, a move that promises to reshape the team’s dynamics and ambitions.
A Fresh Batch of Talent
Among the returning stalwarts are running back Samuel Harris, defensive tackles Dante Drake and Jayden Williams, tight end Jake Wilson, wideout Deion DeBlanc, nickel corner Desman Hearns, and offensive linemen Rex Johnsen and Braylon Jenkins, all of whom helped anchor last year’s attack.
The departure of top receivers, including leading target Chris Durr Jr., who transferred to Maryland, and the exit of impact corners Tyrese Boss and Markie Grant, leaves a void that the coaching staff is eager to fill.
At quarterback, the team will rely on graduate transfer Tyler Hughes from William & Mary, who brings a season of eligibility and a track record of steady play.
The backfield also receives a boost from 1,000‑yard rusher Markell Holman, alongside interior linemen Chandler Donaway, Jason Maciejcak and Jeremiah Katt, who add depth to the offensive line.
Freshman cornerback Kendall Griffin, a three‑star prospect from Morgan Park High School in Chicago, was heavily pursued before committing to Wyoming. Coach Jay Sawvel has praised Griffin’s attention to detail and work ethic, noting that the early enrollee could see action this fall.
Griffin’s arrival continues a pipeline from his high school that has already produced Cowboys such as Chris Durr Jr. and cousin PJ Jackson, underscoring the program’s ability to attract top talent from the Midwest.
