Beauregard High School has named Seneric McCurdy its 19th head football coach, tapping the alum who once wore the Hornets’ colors as a linebacker from 2005 to 2008 and who graduated in 2009.
McCurdy, who most recently served as defensive coordinator at Valdosta High School in Georgia, returns with 11 years of coaching experience and a reputation for building stout defenses that have propelled teams into state playoffs and semifinals.
A Homecoming for a Hornet Legend
During his introduction at the May 12 meeting of the Lee County Board of Education, McCurdy expressed excitement about coming home, noting the deep ties he shares with the community and the school’s tradition of excellence.
BHS Principal Richard Brown praised McCurdy’s lifelong connection to the area, highlighting his commitment to upholding the program’s high standards, including the benchmark set by the 2016 state championship.
Building on a Championship Legacy
The new coach outlined a philosophy built on four pillars — discipline, attitude, toughness, and effort — while also stressing that academic achievement will remain a cornerstone of the football program.
McCurdy, who holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education from the University of West Alabama and is pursuing a doctorate in education administration, believes that success on the field and in the classroom are inseparable.
Looking Forward
He inherits a team that finished the previous season 3‑8 overall and 3‑3 in region play, falling 48‑14 to Northside High School in the opening round of the 5A playoffs, and he plans to restore the Hornets to competitive form.
The upcoming season will be a test of McCurdy’s early implementation of his four‑core principles, as he works to blend experienced seniors with emerging talent.
