Veteran winger Patrick Kane announced his departure from the Detroit Red Wings, ending a three‑year chapter that cemented his status as a future Hall of Famer.
A Bittersweet Goodbye
During his three seasons in Detroit he recorded 57 goals and 106 assists, reached the 500‑goal milestone and set an NHL record for the most points by a U.S.-born player with his 1,375th career point.
Kane thanked the Red Wings organization, owners Marian and Chris Ilitch, executive director Steve Yzerman, coaches, staff and teammates, singling out Alex DeBrincat as one of his closest friends in the league.
He openly expressed regret for not reaching the postseason with Detroit, but praised the fans for their unwavering support and love.
The Blackhawks, who drafted him first overall in 2007 and helped him capture three Stanley Cups, welcomed him back after a brief stint with the New York Rangers.
Kane concluded his message by saying his family will never forget being part of the Red Wings franchise and that the honor of wearing the winged wheel will stay with him forever.
