Katy Hasselbach, who now goes by Katy Schwartz, left an indelible mark on the basketball program at St. Joseph Central Catholic High School in Ohio.
Her tenure was punctuated by a harrowing moment when a stray elbow opened a cut on her scalp, requiring eight stitches, a scene that quickly turned into a rallying cry for her teammates, who adopted headbands in solidarity.
Guided by the tough love of her older brothers, Nick and Kelly Hasselbach, Schwartz cultivated a reputation for grit and leadership that set the tone for a squad known for its aggressive, cohesive style.
The team’s chemistry manifested in a string of victories that left them unbeaten for four consecutive seasons, capturing multiple league crowns and forging bonds that extended beyond the hardwood.

Today, her daughter Kaylin Schwartz looks to the future, dreaming of wearing the Carolina blue for the North Carolina Tar Heels, inspired by the legacy of perseverance and team spirit her mother embodied.
