Troy Henderson's Comeback
Troy Henderson is recovering faster than expected from the shoulder surgery that sidelined him last season, and the Tennessee Volunteers are already planning for his return to the court for the upcoming campaign.
Coach Rick Barnes has highlighted the point guard’s eagerness, noting that Henderson’s work ethic in the rehab facility has impressed the staff and that the player is eager to contribute from day one.
During his freshman year he logged 1.8 points and 1.0 assists across 28 appearances, numbers that belied his potential; he was also ranked No. 27 among point guards in the Class of 2025 by 247Sports.
Having originally weighed a move to the transfer portal, Henderson ultimately chose to stay in Knoxville, citing his commitment to the program and the chance to build on his early college experience.
A Deepening Guard Corps
The Volunteers will not be short on options at the point, with VCU transfer Terrence Hill Jr. and freshman Marquis Clark both capable of handling the ball, while sophomore forward DeWayne Brown II remains the sole other returning veteran.
Henderson’s high school recruitment added another layer to his story; he had been committed to Fordham before signing with Tennessee as a three‑star prospect, and he finished his freshman season with 29 assists, 12 rebounds and 11 steals.
Among the supporting cast, forward Dai Dai Ames, guard Jalen Haralson, shooting guard Juke Harris and wing Manny Green are expected to provide additional depth, while Ralph Scott, a forward known for his athleticism, could see increased minutes.
Fans in Knoxville and across the state are optimistic that the added guard talent will translate into more competitive performances in the SEC, especially as the team looks to improve on last season’s results.
