The latest Baseball America transfer portal rankings have placed a spotlight on the University of South Carolina’s baseball pipeline, with five new arrivals and four departing players cracking the Top 90.
At the top of the incoming group is Andrew Costello, a catcher who transferred from Wake Forest. The publication slotted him at No. 15 overall, making him the highest‑rated Gamecock in the class.
Costello’s freshman year at Wake Forest saw him bat .244/.321/.382 with four home runs, three doubles, a triple and three stolen bases. This summer in the Cape Cod League he has continued to show progress, sharpening the offensive skills that earned him the attention of scouts.
A Deep Talent Pool
The outgoing side of the ledger is led by right‑hander Jake McCoy, who is headed to Tennessee. He sits at No. 7 overall and is recognized as the second‑best left‑handed pitcher in the nation.
McCoy’s repertoire is built around a five‑pitch mix that includes a four‑seam fastball, two‑seam fastball, cutter, slider and changeup. What sets him apart is his unorthodox arm slot, a lower three‑quarters delivery that creates a distinctive release point and helps his stuff play up.
