Tom Lacher, who guided the Peoria Notre Dame boys basketball team for fifteen seasons, announced his resignation this week, bringing to a close a tenure marked by steady growth and notable successes.
A distinguished career
During his time at the school he amassed a 241‑195 record, captured five regional championships and led the program to two Class 3A Sweet Sixteen appearances, including an Elite Eight run in 2014 and regional titles in 2015, 2019 and 2020.
Lacher described his years at the school as a blessing, emphasizing the relationships he forged and the personal development he witnessed in the players under his mentorship.
Looking ahead
He said he plans to remain involved in coaching, exploring new opportunities while acknowledging the recent 8‑19 finish that ended the 2025‑26 season and the challenges that lie ahead for the program.
Community response
Current and former players, along with their families, took the chance to express gratitude for his guidance, and the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame honored him as the 2020 Tri‑County Boys Coach of the Year.
