A milestone in community sports
Coach Calvin Carson and Tenika Smith-Carson have built a free basketball camp in Decatur, Illinois, that this summer marked its 13th edition, drawing more than 200 participants ranging from seven to twenty‑three years old.
The camp focuses on teaching fundamental basketball skills while also fostering community bonds. Over the years, volunteers, sponsorships and donors have sustained the effort since 2013, providing trophies for all participants and t‑shirts to the first one hundred attendees.
A tradition that looks forward
For many youngsters, the camp is the highlight of the summer, a chance to improve their game and connect with peers. Organizers say the anticipation is already building for next year’s edition, promising another season of growth and togetherness.
