A weekend of celebration unfolded on the Las Vegas Strip last month, as rapper and television personality Flavor Flav spearheaded a series of events honoring more than one hundred American women who have excelled at the Winter Olympics and Paralympics. The festivities, dubbed “SHE Weekend,” combined a parade, a ceremonial presentation of keys to the Strip, and a free concert headlined by the legendary hip‑hop group Public Enemy.
A Citywide Tribute
The parade rolled south on the Strip from just north of Park MGM to Bruno Mars Way, drawing an estimated 10,000 spectators with roughly 6,000 gathered along the route. Olympians and Paralympians rode in decorated floats while Clark County officials presented them with ceremonial keys to the Strip, symbolizing the city’s gratitude and support.
Corporate partners including MGM Resorts, the Palms Casino Resort, StubHub, Delta Air Lines and Alaska Airlines helped fund the weekend’s programming and provided logistical assistance. Their involvement underscored a broader community embrace of women’s sports, with the Raiders, Golden Knights and Aces also joining the procession.
Athletes such as Hayley Scamurra, Jaelin Kauf, Elizabeth Lemley and Jacqueline Wiles took to social media to thank Flavor Flav and express how the recognition could inspire younger girls to pursue their own athletic dreams. Team USA captain Hillary Knight, who was in New York attending the Time100 Sports Gala, was unable to be present but praised the initiative from afar.
The celebration was framed as a direct response to a controversial comment made by former President Donald Trump about the U.S. women’s hockey team, transforming a moment of criticism into a platform for empowerment and national pride.
Beyond the parade, a free concert headlined by Public Enemy brought the weekend to a close, highlighting the intersection of sports, music and civic celebration in Las Vegas.
