Marc Tancredi has been appointed head coach of the Berlin High School girls basketball program, ushering in the first leadership change in more than twenty years.
The hiring follows a 22‑year tenure by Sheila King, whose 314‑195 record and 13 state quarterfinal appearances helped cement the Redcoats as a perennial contender.
Tancredi arrives with nearly ten years of head‑coaching experience, a 166‑52 record and a résumé that includes state semifinal appearances at both Ellington and Newington, where his teams captured multiple championships.
At Newington, his Nor'easters reached the CIAC Class L semifinals three times and contested the 2022 title game, while at Ellington he guided the squad to the 2025 Class MM semifinals and a Division III quarterfinal run.
Before his current role, Tancredi began his head‑coaching journey at the Academy of Aerospace and Engineering in Windsor in 2018, a stint that sharpened his ability to develop talent from a specialized youth pipeline.
He has spoken publicly about his respect for King’s legacy and his eagerness to preserve the winning tradition that has defined Berlin basketball.
Building on a Strong Foundation
The Berlin program benefits from a robust youth travel circuit that feeds skilled players into the high school roster each season.
Tancredi plans to leverage that pipeline, emphasizing player development and continuity while introducing his own strategic nuances.
Fans and alumni alike are watching closely as the new coach seeks to blend reverence for past achievements with a forward‑looking vision.
Looking Ahead
The upcoming season will serve as a litmus test for Tancredi’s ability to sustain excellence, with early expectations centered on maintaining competitiveness in the conference and deepening the team’s playoff pedigree.
As the Redcoats prepare for tip‑off, the broader community remains hopeful that the transition will honor the program’s storied past while charting an ambitious new course.
