Indiana Secures Its First Five-Star Recruit in Program History

Wide receiver Monshun Sales commits to the Hoosiers, choosing the Big Ten over a slate of national powerhouses

Indiana University announced a landmark addition to its 2027 football class when Monshun Sales, a highly touted wide receiver, revealed his commitment during a live segment on the Pat McAfee Show. The announcement concluded a recruitment saga that had drawn attention from coast to coast.

A Historic Commitment

Sales, ranked as the No. 2 wide receiver and the No. 8 overall prospect in the 2027 cycle by 247Sports, chose Indiana over a field that included Ohio State, Alabama, Texas and LSU. His decision represents the first time the Hoosiers have secured a player of that caliber, a milestone that underscores the program’s upward trajectory under head coach Curt Cignetti.

The Indianapolis native had visited each of the programs he considered, making three unofficial trips to Bloomington before stepping onto campus for an official visit on April 24. He capped his recruitment by returning to campus for a game against Wisconsin on November 15, 2025, and later for a second unofficial visit on January 24.

Physically, Sales blends a 6‑foot‑5 frame with 195 pounds of speed, allowing him to stretch defenses vertically. As a sophomore he recorded 34 catches for 568 yards and seven touchdowns, and last season he posted 37 receptions for 794 yards and nine scores, averaging 21.5 yards per catch.

His arrival comes at a time when Indiana’s returning top receivers, juniors Charlie Becker and Nick Marsh, are projected to enter the NFL Draft after the 2026 season. Sales will therefore be a central figure in a revamped receiving corps that aims to build on the momentum of a class that already includes three‑star commitments Branden Sharpe and Jordan Carrasquillo.

The commitment not only highlights Indiana’s growing recruiting clout but also signals a shift in the Big Ten landscape, as traditional powerhouses face increasing competition from the Hoosiers. Sales’ pledge is expected to influence future recruiting conversations and could serve as a blueprint for other mid‑tier programs seeking to punch above their weight.
