The Big Rapids baseball squad capped a remarkable season by clinching both the Central State Activities Association Red Division crown and the Division 2 district title, a feat that has put the program back in the spotlight.
At the heart of that success was junior infielder Levi Hatchew, whose blend of offensive firepower and defensive reliability proved decisive in numerous matchups.
During a victory over Morley Stanwood, Hatchew delivered two hits and an RBI, and in a doubleheader against Traverse City West he tallied three hits and three RBIs, underscoring his knack for timely production.
While his bat has drawn attention, Hatchew identifies third base as his ideal position, citing his arm strength and keen ability to track the ball as the foundation of his defensive game.
Looking Ahead to a Senior Season
Now focused on refining his fielding technique, Hatchew plans to build on the momentum of his junior year and continue delivering strong performances for the Cardinals.
Although he also competes in basketball, baseball remains his primary sport, and he hopes to translate his work ethic into an even more impactful senior campaign.
Coaches and teammates alike expect the junior to emerge as a senior leader, guiding the team toward further accolades and perhaps another deep playoff run.
