Rain delays District 5B baseball tournament games in Platte, South Dakota

Two Saturday contests postponed, new schedule set for Sunday and Monday

Weather disruption forces schedule changes

Heavy rain and thunderstorms rolled through Platte, South Dakota on Saturday, prompting officials to postpone two District 5B amateur baseball tournament games.

The opening contest between the Parkston Mudcats and Mount Vernon was halted midway through the third inning, with Mount Vernon leading 5‑3, and will resume at 5 p.m. Sunday, allowing the Mudcats to complete their at‑bat in the bottom of the third.

A second matchup, featuring the Parkston Rays against Dimock/Emery, also fell victim to the inclement weather and is now slated for Sunday night, giving both teams a chance to finish the game.

Because of the delays, the District 5B semifinal doubleheader has been moved to Monday, with Alexandria facing Platte at 6 p.m., and the winner of the Mudcats‑Mount Vernon game meeting the winner of the Rays‑Dimock/Emery contest at approximately 8 p.m.

Tuesday’s elimination round remains on the schedule, featuring a 6 p.m. game between Corsica and Winner/Colome, followed by an 8 p.m. contest that will pit the loser of the Mudcats‑Mount Vernon game against the loser of the Rays‑Dimock/Emery game.
