A Coach Shaped by Currier
Brian Fay stepped into the role of head coach for the Fairfield University baseball program after a distinguished eight‑year apprenticeship under longtime mentor Bill Currier. The transition was not merely a change of title but the culmination of a carefully groomed succession that Currier himself recommended.
During his tenure as assistant and associate head coach, Fay helped the Stags compile seven consecutive seasons with at least 30 victories, including school‑record 39‑win campaigns in 2021 and 2025. Under his guidance the team captured four straight conference regular‑season championships and earned two NCAA Tournament berths.
Fay’s playing pedigree stems from Pomperaug High School, where he earned All‑State honors, captured a state championship, and served as captain of both the hockey and baseball teams. His early success laid a foundation of competitiveness that he later carried into college coaching.
Before arriving at Fairfield, Fay contributed to Siena College’s Saints, where he was part of a squad that won the MAAC championship and helped the program secure its first NCAA Tournament victory in 2014. He also spent a season as an assistant at Hudson Valley Community College and previously worked as an insurance underwriter, experiences that broadened his strategic outlook.
Now at the helm, Fay is eager to build on the program’s recent triumphs while instilling a culture defined by discipline, accountability and passion. He emphasizes that the Stags will continue to pursue excellence both on and off the field, aiming to sustain the winning momentum that has become a hallmark of Fairfield baseball.
The appointment reflects a seamless blend of tradition and ambition, as the university looks to preserve its competitive edge while fostering new growth under Fay’s leadership.
