A Tight Contest on the Diamond
On May 11, the Bluffton High School baseball team fell 4-3 to Spencerville in a Northwest Conference matchup that swung back and forth until the final out.
The Tigers out-hit the visitors 10-5, but four defensive miscues turned what should have been a clean inning into two unearned runs, a margin that proved decisive.
Robby Taylor took the mound for Bluffton, logging all six innings and surrendering five hits while allowing only two earned runs. His effort kept the team within striking distance.
Jude Stemen opened the game for Spencerville, pitching five frames and striking out seven batters while giving up eight hits. Gavin Comer closed the game, earning a save with three strikeouts over the last two innings.
At the plate, Bentley Rex contributed two singles and drove in a run, while William Hoover added two hits and plated a teammate. Jaegar Crawfis was steady with three singles of his own.
Spencerville’s offense found gaps in the Tigers’ defense, highlighted by Eli Pohlman’s clutch double that brought home a run and Mason Lewis’s two RBIs that helped seal the win.
Looking Ahead
Bluffton’s schedule does not ease up. After a rain‑out against Upper Scioto Valley last Friday, the Tigers travel to face Arcadia on Tuesday before hosting Cory‑Rawson on Friday.
