Countdown to Kickoff: Honoring Horned Frog Legends
TCU is gearing up for its 2026 season opener against North Carolina in Dublin, Ireland, scheduled for Aug. 29. The matchup marks the first time the program will begin a campaign on Irish soil, and the university has turned the occasion into a celebration of past greats.
As part of the Countdown to Kickoff series, the athletic department is highlighting former players whose jersey numbers correspond to the number of days left until kickoff. At No. 34, the spotlight falls on Ed Wesley, a running back who left an indelible mark during his three‑year tenure with the Horned Frogs.
Wesley’s collegiate career was defined by consistency and production. He earned All‑Mountain West Conference honors three times and capped his junior season with a career‑best 1,078 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in 2010, a season that culminated in a Rose Bowl victory over Wisconsin.
That year, Wesley also contributed 638 yards as a freshman and added 726 yards with six scores in his junior year, earning All‑MWC Honorable Mention for the second time. Over his three seasons he amassed 2,442 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns, complemented by 22 receptions for 314 yards and three scores.
After the 2011 campaign, Wesley stepped away from the program to address family matters, never returning to the field. His departure left a void that was felt across the locker room, but his statistical legacy remains a benchmark for future backs.
A Legacy That Still Resonates
The Countdown to Kickoff series does more than recount statistics; it connects current fans with the rich history of TCU football. By honoring Wesley alongside other alumni, the program reinforces a culture of excellence that stretches beyond the gridiron.
With the Dublin opener fast approaching, the narrative surrounding Wesley’s No. 34 jersey serves as a reminder that every countdown day is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements that shaped the Horned Frogs’ identity.
