Mark Daigneault, the architect of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s recent dominance, has been appointed as an assistant coach for the USA Basketball Men’s National Team for the 2027‑28 season, a role that will see him work directly with head coach Erik Spoelstra and fellow assistants J.B. Bickerstaff and Mark Few.
Daigneault expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity, saying he is eager to learn from the experienced staff and contribute to a program that has its sights set on the Olympic Games.
Thunder’s Recent Triumphs
The Thunder’s 2025‑26 campaign ended with a league‑best 64‑18 record, securing the top seed in the Western Conference for the third consecutive year and leading the NBA in defensive rating (106.5) and net rating (11.1).
Daigneault’s stewardship has earned him multiple accolades, including NBA Coach of the Year and National Basketball Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2024, as well as five Western Conference Coach of the Month awards throughout his career.
In addition to his current responsibilities, Daigneault brings a decade of experience with USA Basketball, having served as video coordinator on gold‑medal‑winning U19 and U18 teams in 2013 and 2014, a background that adds a unique perspective to the national program.
