Jennifer Mailei, a 6‑foot‑3 forward from Sydney, has officially pledged to join Ball State University’s women’s basketball program for the 2026 season, marking a significant addition to the Cardinals’ recruiting class.
Coach Brady Sallee highlighted her toughness, physicality and versatility, noting that her athleticism and skill set give the team a new dimension both inside and on the perimeter.
A Global Perspective for the Cardinals
Mailei’s international résumé includes stints with the New Zealand U17 national team, a bronze‑medal performance at the 2024 FIBA U‑16 Women’s Asian Championships and participation in the FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup in Mexico, experiences that have sharpened her competitive edge.
She will arrive alongside recent signees Faith Walker and Helen Holley, as well as early commits Lillian Barnes and Klaske Miedema, forming a deep and talented frontcourt.
The coaching staff believes that Mailei’s blend of size, mobility and basketball IQ will not only bolster the team’s on‑court performance but also enrich its culture, bringing a global perspective to the locker room.
Coach Sallee emphasized that Mailei’s cultural fit aligns with the program’s values, describing her as a player who embraces competition while remaining grounded and team‑oriented.
Fans can look forward to seeing how her overseas experience translates to the Mid‑American Conference, where her physical style of play is expected to be a matchup nightmare for opponents.
