Dom Purcell, a junior outside linebacker at the Naval Academy, recently opened up about the experiences that have shaped his time in Annapolis.
Hailing from Columbus, Ohio, and graduating from Bishop Watterson High School, Purcell chose Navy not only for its academic rigor but for the chance to be part of something larger than himself.
Among his favorite courses, Ethics and U.S. Government stand out, and he credits Captain Sager and Maj. St Pierre for sparking his intellectual curiosity.
Off the field, Purcell finds relief on Instagram, often scrolling through the feed of Harry Beacham III for a quick laugh.
His ideal vacation is a trip to Italy, a destination he says would let him soak in history and culture while recharging his spirit.
When asked about the team’s uniform, he admits a soft spot for the all‑blue combination, a subtle nod to the cohesion he feels on game day.
Purcell emphasizes that leadership, in his view, is less about a title and more about consistent effort, a lesson he learned from teammates like Liam Barbee, who made the biggest impact when he first arrived.
He points to several peers as future leaders, naming MarcAnthony Parker and Jackson Gutierrez as potential captains, and predicts Jackson Gutierrez and MarcAnthony Parker as 2026 MVPs on offense and defense.
Looking ahead to his second‑class year, Purcell is eager to spend time with his closest friends, continue his card‑playing hobby, and see how his position group pursues the ball with relentless energy.
Beyond football, he dreams of playing lacrosse, admires lacrosse star Alex Gregorek, and believes that wearing the Navy name means representing the United States on every play.
