Transfer Portal Shakeup for Florida State Baseball
The 2024 offseason has seen the Seminoles’ entire transfer‑portal list resolve itself into a flurry of commitments. All nine players who entered the portal have found new homes, and the coaching staff has simultaneously welcomed seven new additions. The moves reflect a strategic reshaping of the roster as the program looks to rebuild depth and maintain competitiveness in the ACC.
Among the departures, Hunter Carns is headed to the University of Georgia, where he will join the Bulldogs of the SEC. Over the past two seasons at Florida State, Carns started 88 games and appeared in 91, showcasing a reliable presence on the mound and at the plate.
Gabe Fraser, another key contributor, will continue within the ACC, transferring to Wake Forest University. In his single season with the Seminoles, Fraser played in 38 games and made 35 starts, delivering solid performances that caught the attention of the Demon Deacons.
Chase Williams has chosen UCF, reuniting with former Florida State recruiting coordinator Rich Wallace. Williams has been a workhorse, starting more than 30 games in each of the last two seasons and providing depth that the Knights will look to tap.
Noah Sheffield is set to head north to the University of Michigan. As a sophomore, he appeared in 38 games and made 26 starts, contributing significantly to the team’s pitching rotation before deciding on Ann Arbor.
Kelvyn Paulino Jr. will test his talents at Indiana University. The true freshman made 35 appearances and started 26 games in his debut season, emerging as a promising arm for the Hoosiers.
Manny Lantigua is also heading to UCF, where he will join Lantigua’s new teammates after a brief stint at Florida State that saw six appearances and a single start as a true freshman.
Jake Echols has committed to Grand Canyon University, where he will bring his 9.1 innings of experience from the Seminoles into a new environment. His brief but impactful outings hint at potential for growth under the Antelopes’ staff.
Charlie Buckles will continue his collegiate career at Northwestern University, though he did not record any appearances during his true freshman year. His addition adds depth to the Wildcats’ roster as they look ahead.
The influx of new talent and the successful placements of departing Seminoles underscore the program’s active role in the transfer market. With a blend of seasoned transfers and fresh prospects, Florida State aims to stay competitive in the upcoming season and beyond.
