A New Chapter in Maddox's Career
Will Maddox was hired as an assistant coach at Georgia State on July 16, marking the next step in a career that has spanned the dugout and the diamond.
A native of Gainesville, Georgia, Maddox grew up watching the Bulldogs and later excelled at the University of Tennessee, where he batted .309 over three seasons, stole 60 bases and earned a spot on the 2013 USA Baseball collegiate national team.

His collegiate achievements included a SEC All‑Freshman Team selection in 2012 after hitting .297, and a .333 average the following year that helped him catch the eye of the Detroit Tigers, who drafted him in the 18th round of the 2014 MLB Draft.
Maddox then embarked on a six‑year minor‑league journey, most notably with the Erie SeaWolves and Richmond Flying Squirrels, compiling a .301 career batting average, nine home runs and 148 RBIs.
After hanging up his glove, Maddox turned to coaching, first joining Youngstown State as an assistant in 2025 before being promoted to associate head coach the following season. His experience on the field and in player development positions him to contribute immediately to Georgia State’s program.
