The Portland Thorns announced this week that midfielder Jessie Fleming has signed a contract extension that runs through the 2028 season, a move that locks in one of the NWSL’s most versatile players for the foreseeable future.
Fleming, who has featured in every minute of the Thorns’ campaign this year, helped the club secure a third‑place finish while delivering a blend of defensive grit and attacking flair that has defined the team’s identity.
Portland Thorns President Jeff Agoos praised the Canadian international, saying she has been “instrumental on and off the field” and that her leadership extends beyond the pitch.
Her new deal comes alongside extensions for ten other Thorns members who will also remain with the club through 2028 or later, a roster stability that the front office believes will keep the team competitive.
A Strategic Extension for the Thorns
Fleming arrived in Portland in 2024 after four seasons with Chelsea, bringing with her a wealth of experience that includes 65 appearances for the Thorns, 55 of them as starts.
The 28‑year‑old’s impact is reflected in her statistics: 20 goals, 15 assists, and a total of 157 caps for the Canadian women’s national team, where she now serves as captain after succeeding Christine Sinclair.
Her international résumé includes three World Cup appearances and three Olympic tournaments, highlighted by Canada’s gold‑medal run at Tokyo 2020.
