Southern University Moves to Honor Legendary Coach Roger Cador with Field Naming and Contract Extensions

Board approves renaming of Lee-Hines Stadium baseball field and extends contracts for Crenshaw and Funchess amid salary adjustments

Honoring a Legend

The Southern University Board of Supervisors is set to vote on a measure that would rename the baseball field at Lee-Hines Stadium in honor of the late coach Roger Cador, a figure who shaped the program for more than three decades.

Cador spent 33 years at the helm, compiling a career record of 913‑597‑1, guiding 10 All‑Americans and producing 62 players who advanced to the Major League Baseball draft.

Contract Decisions at the Board

In addition to the naming decision, the board will consider a contract extension for Head Baseball Coach Christopher Crenshaw that would keep him in charge through June 30, 2029.

The board also plans to extend the contract of Head Women’s Basketball Coach Carlos Funchess through 2033, adding a $20,000 annual salary increase to his compensation.
