Allen brings more than a decade of international experience to Pittsburgh. After a 16‑year professional playing career abroad, he transitioned into coaching and has since helmed clubs in Spain’s Coviran Granada, Germany’s SC Rasta Vechta, and the NBA G League’s Capital City Go‑Go. His recent stints also include leadership roles with Capitanes de la Ciudad de Mexico, Venados de Mazatlán, and several developmental programs in the United States and Canada.
Joyce praised Allen’s blend of playing pedigree and coaching acumen, noting that the new assistant will add a worldwide perspective to the Dukes’ recruiting and scouting efforts. “Derrick’s basketball IQ and global network are exactly what we need as we aim to compete at a higher level,” Joyce said.

Darik Artis, who had served as the director of basketball operations for the Dukes, now adds the title of assistant coach to his responsibilities. Artis began his coaching journey as an assistant at Columbus Africentric Early College High School before moving into collegiate support roles, giving him a strong foundation in player development and program administration.
