Emily Waltz, a senior at Big Rapids High School, has emerged as one of the most versatile athletes in Michigan’s high school sports landscape. Excelling in soccer, golf, and basketball, she combines raw talent with a disciplined work ethic that has drawn praise from coaches and teammates alike.
During her sophomore soccer campaign she recorded 25 goals and seven assists, guiding her team to a decisive 10‑goal performance in the final match against Kent City, a victory sealed with just seven seconds remaining on the clock. Her efforts earned first‑team All‑Central State Activities Association recognition and a place on the Pioneer All‑Area squad, accolades that reflect both skill and consistency.
Coach Curt Ray, who has guided Waltz throughout her soccer development, described her as a player with “finesse and the ability to create scoring opportunities out of thin air.” He added that her confidence on the field is matched by a humility that keeps her grounded, a trait that has helped foster strong team chemistry.
Off the pitch, Waltz attributes much of her success to a mindset built on confidence and collaboration. “I believe in myself, but I also know that the team’s success comes first,” she said, emphasizing that teamwork is the cornerstone of her approach to every competition.
This fall, Waltz will shift her focus to golf, a sport she lists as her personal favorite. Anticipation is high as she prepares to join the varsity golf roster, with practice sessions slated to begin on August 10. Local observers expect her to rank among the top girls’ golfers in the region, citing her natural swing and competitive drive.
Beyond individual goals, Waltz hopes to help Big Rapids secure another conference title, a feat that would underscore the program’s growing prominence.
