A New Chapter for Aztec Basketball
Matt Melvin arrived at Aztec High School with a clear mission: to rebuild a program that has not posted a winning record since the 2010‑11 season. The school announced his appointment as head coach of the boys basketball team, highlighting his recent success at Navajo Prep where he compiled a 102‑26 record over five seasons.
At Navajo Prep, Melvin’s teams captured every District 1‑3A title and culminated his tenure with the school’s first-ever state championship, defeating Robertson High School 60‑50 in 2024. His ability to sustain excellence was evident in each of those five seasons, during which his squads consistently competed at the top of their class.
