Eastern Illinois Football Sets Sights on 2026 OVC Campaign

Preseason poll places Panthers seventh as they gear up for a challenging schedule

Eastern Illinois University’s football program is gearing up for the 2026 season, opening its schedule on August 27 with a road contest against Murray State.

The Panthers were slotted seventh in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll, reflecting a modest but hopeful outlook as they prepare to compete against the league’s traditional powerhouses.

Preseason Outlook

The Ohio Valley Conference media day, held on July 17 in Nashville, highlighted UT Martin as the preseason favorite, earning six first‑place votes, while Eastern Illinois entered the conversation as a team poised to climb the standings.

Eastern Illinois will begin its OVC slate on October 10 at Gardner‑Webb, then host Lindenwood on October 17 in the first home conference matchup of the season. Season tickets are now available for purchase online or by phone, allowing supporters to secure seats for the entire slate of games, including the highly anticipated home opener.

Preseason Watch List

The conference released a list of twelve players to watch, featuring Eastern Illinois standouts such as Cole LaCrue, Charles Kellom, Landers Green, Alex Ginnever, Rahfeeq Katumbusi, Max Loveall, Drew Schiller, Aidan Archibald, Ja’Wuan Nickson, Saipeti Maiava, Jacarre Fleming‑Page and Devin Whitlock.
