The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has unveiled the recipients of its 2026 Baseball Major Awards, spotlighting a standout season for several student‑athletes across the league. The announcements precede the 2026 MAAC Baseball Championship, set to take place at Heritage Financial Park in Wappingers Falls, New York, from May 20‑23, 2026.
Award Winners
Fairfield University dominated the accolades, capturing three of the five major awards. Matt Bucciero earned Player of the Year honors and was the sole unanimous selection to the All‑MAAC First Team, leading the league in home runs, RBIs, slugging percentage and total bases. Pitcher Ben Alekson was recognized as Pitcher of the Year after posting a 2.53 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP, while rookie Harrison Engle claimed Rookie of the Year with a 6‑2 record and a solitary save.
Championship Details
The championship will feature a six‑team double‑elimination format and marks the third consecutive year the tournament returns to Heritage Financial Park, a venue that has hosted the MAAC Baseball Championship more times than any other site in the conference’s history. The event underscores the league’s 45‑year legacy and its commitment to showcasing top collegiate talent.
Additional honors went to Andrew Damiani of Niagara University, named Relief Pitcher of the Year after recording 11 saves, the most in the MAAC, and Brian Murphy of Merrimack College, who was selected Coach of the Year for guiding his squad to a 20‑10 conference record and securing the program’s inaugural postseason berth.
