A Promising Edge Rusher Joins the Eagles
At 6‑foot‑6 and 260 pounds, Demetrius Ballard is already a physical presence that catches the eye of Boston College’s defensive staff. The senior edge rusher has been placed at No. 15 on the program’s top‑20 player list, a ranking that reflects both his size and the upside the coaching staff sees in his game.
Ballard’s football journey began in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, where he earned All‑Allegheny 6 Conference Defensive MVP honors after a standout senior season that included over 100 tackles, 18 sacks, three forced fumbles and a touchdown. Though his production at Buffalo in the Mid‑American Conference was modest — 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 13 games — he has since added roughly 15 pounds and is now working under first‑year coordinator Ted Roof.
Roof, who returned to the college ranks after a stint in the NFL, has said he plans to integrate Ballard regularly into his scheme. The coach’s emphasis on technique and pass‑rushing fundamentals could be the catalyst that turns a promising prospect into a disruptive force on the line.
