A Proposal Met With Fan Enthusiasm
Tommy Baldwin Jr., who serves as majority owner of Rick Ware Racing, announced that he would like to see the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series renamed in tribute to the late Kyle Busch. The suggestion was made public on social media, where it quickly gathered a wave of positive responses from fans who have long celebrated Busch’s impact on the sport.
Busch, who amassed 69 victories and seven championships across the Truck Series, also contributed to the division as an owner and mentor. His early development was shaped by competition in Legend Car events, a pathway that helped refine his racing instincts before he moved up the NASCAR ladder.
The racing community was struck by tragedy when Busch died in May at the age of 41. A bout of pneumonia progressed into sepsis, ending a career that had spanned more than two decades. In the wake of his passing, fans flooded platforms with messages of gratitude, highlighting his sportsmanship and competitive spirit.
To honor Busch’s legacy, Charlotte Motor Speedway will host a public memorial service following the Truck Series race on Oct. 9. The event aims to bring together supporters, family, and fellow competitors in a shared moment of remembrance.
In addition, Bowman Gray Stadium will stage the Kyle Busch Invitational on Aug. 21. Proceeds from the event will be directed to the Samantha and Kyle Busch Bundle of Joy Fund, a charitable initiative that supports families in need.
The proposal to rename the series reflects a broader desire within the sport to preserve Busch’s contributions for future generations. Rick Ware Racing, NASCAR, and the organizations that have supported Busch’s career — including U.S. Legend Cars International and INEX Racing Series — have all been mentioned in discussions about the tribute.
