Rutgers University’s women’s basketball team continued its unbeaten run at the FISU America Games, posting a 95‑32 win over Ecuador and extending its record to 3‑0.
A blistering opening
The Scarlet Knights exploded out of the gate with a 16‑1 run that left Ecuador scrambling, and a 27‑8 lead after the first quarter set the tone for the rest of the contest.
By halftime the margin had ballooned to 45‑13, fueled by a 16‑4 surge in the second period that showcased the team’s depth and defensive intensity.
Head coach Gary Redus II praised the squad’s ability to adjust on the fly, noting that the fast‑paced, scrappy identity he envisions is already taking shape in the locker room.
Key contributors such as Tara Daye, Jaylah Lampley, Mya Pauldo, Mia Pauldo, Precious Gem Wheeler and Chikae Desdunes helped keep the opposition off balance throughout the game.
Rutgers will close out pool play on Sunday at 7 p.m. ET against Chile, a team that arrives after victories over Peru and Ecuador, each by comfortable margins.
