Commitment Day at Propel
Gabe Jenkins, a four‑star recruit from Propel Braddock Hills, announced his pledge to the University of Colorado, ending a recruiting saga that saw him first commit to Penn State before the Nittany Lions dismissed head coach James Franklin.
Jenkins starred last season as a safety and dual‑threat quarterback, amassing more than 3,000 offensive yards and 44 touchdowns, numbers that helped him earn offers from powerhouse programs such as Pitt, West Virginia, Georgia and others.
The recruit’s decision came after a visit to Boulder in May and a public commitment on May 20, a move that was welcomed by Colorado’s coaching staff and head coach Deion Sanders, who highlighted the player’s versatility and work ethic.
A Dual‑Role Leader
Coach LaRoi Johnson, who has guided Jenkins throughout high school, described the youngster as a “dedicated leader” who impacts the game on both sides of the ball, and expects him to anchor the defense while also contributing at quarterback.
On the schedule, Propel Braddock Hills will meet traditional rivals including Avonworth, West Mifflin and South Park, with the ultimate goal of returning to the Class 3A title game and defending their championship.
Jenkins says the experience of playing under Sanders, who is known for his high‑energy approach, adds an extra layer of excitement, and he hopes to translate that energy into a strong senior campaign that could attract national attention.
Looking Ahead
With his college destination set, Jenkins now focuses on the upcoming high school season, aiming to showcase his skills for Colorado’s recruiting class while keeping his team in contention for another state title.
