A Russian prospect's North American leap
Yegor Yegorov, a goaltending prospect drafted by the Calgary Flames in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL Draft, is set to begin his North American collegiate career with Miami University for the 2026‑27 season, marking a pivotal step toward his NHL dream.
After four seasons developing in Russia, where he posted 13 victories and a .918 save percentage with Spartak‑MAX, Yegorov will join a program that already includes fellow Russians Ilia Morozov and Vladislav Lukashevich.
The move is driven as much by practicality as ambition; being in North America shortens communication lines with the Flames’ development staff, including coaches Jordan Sigalet and Mackenzie Skapski, who have helped refine his skills.
Head coach Anthony Noreen, who has experience guiding European prospects through the transition to U.S. college hockey, will oversee Yegorov’s integration into the roster.
Yegorov’s participation in multiple Flames development camps has reinforced his career goals and his belief that North American ice will better prepare him for the professional game.
Being closer to Calgary’s management also promises easier feedback loops, a factor Yegorov says will accelerate his readiness for the NHL.
The signing reflects a broader trend of Russian net‑minders seeking collegiate pathways in the United States, a route that has historically served as a proving ground for future NHL talent.
For the Flames organization, securing a promising Russian prospect who can develop under their system while remaining close to their staff represents a strategic addition to their goaltending pipeline.
