The effort marks a rare move to promote an active player for the award, underscoring the university’s confidence in his national impact.
A Legacy in the Making
Jennings, a Dallas native, guided SMU to the College Football Playoff two seasons ago and now stands as the program’s first active player to have a campus area named in his honor.
His career stats — 19 wins, 7,709 passing yards and 55 touchdowns — place him among the most prolific quarterbacks in school history, while his 300‑of‑454 completion rate from last season highlights his efficiency.
State‑of‑the‑Art Recovery Facility
Inspired by Jennings’ own recovery philosophy, the new center will house advanced physical and mental rehabilitation equipment, offering athletes a comprehensive pathway to return to competition.
The project is funded in part by alumni Ann Holland and Malcolm Holland, who have pledged support to ensure the facility opens early in the upcoming season.
Beyond honoring a player, the center reflects SMU’s broader commitment to athlete welfare, echoing the legacy of past honorees such as Doak Walker, the school’s only Heisman winner in 1948.
