Macktown Warriors Gear Up for Their 20th Season of Youth Football

The Rockton, Illinois nonprofit program blends community spirit with competitive play as it seeks new players.

The Macktown Warriors, a nonprofit tackle football organization in Rockton, Illinois, are gearing up for their 20th season of youth football. The program, which fields teams for children from third through eighth grade, stresses community involvement and player development above all else.

A Tradition of Inclusivity

Head coach Traonte Boulton, a local police officer, says the league’s core belief is simple: every participant gets meaningful playing time. ‘Giving back to the community is part of the game,’ he explains, noting that the experience teaches teamwork, discipline and confidence.

Board President Patrick Rollette, who has overseen the organization for two decades, emphasizes that the Warriors’ philosophy remains unchanged. ‘We’re entering our 20th year, and the goal is still to let every kid step onto the field,’ he says.

The season carries a $275 fee per player, covering a personalized jersey, helmet, shoulder pads, referee fees and camp expenses. To ensure accessibility, scholarships and flexible payment plans are offered to families in need.

Free training camps run through July 24, meeting each evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The first official practice is slated for July 27, after which the team will begin regular season competition in the BIG14 conference against rivals such as Rochelle, Byron and Dixon.

Last season, the sixth‑grade squad reached the conference championship, battling Byron to a 12‑12 tie in double overtime. The close contest exemplifies the competitive spirit the Warriors aim to cultivate while maintaining a welcoming environment for newcomers.

With about five roster spots available at each grade level, families interested in joining can learn more and register at macktownfootball.com. The website also details scholarship criteria and payment options.
